This past Saturday night (Sept. 11), Onitsuka Tiger and SPIN teamed up to hold a VMAs kick-off event at SPiN Hollywood in the Mondrian Hotel. Guests enjoyed a night of ping-pong, and Svedka Vodka cocktails, while listening to tunes spun by electro-pop performer and two-time VMA nominee Dan Black and DJ Walkoff.

ROUND THE WORLD MIX by djwalkoff

The Shot Heard 'Round The World is the term given to the game winning walk-off home run by the New York Giants outfielder Bobby Thompson in 1951 defeating the Brooklyn Dodgers 5-4. It is one of the most famous episodes in baseball history. Growing up in the Bay Area as an SF Giants fan makes it more significant and has always been a defining moment as to why I pursued the dream of playing professional baseball.

You're probably wondering what does this have to do with the mix, but it's a name I have always wanted to use for a mix. Personally, it's fitting for a few reasons - the "walkoff" home run & the sounds of music that come from all over the world. Nonetheless, enjoy!

On 12/13/09 I had the pleasure of customizing my own Nike Air Force 1 Bespoke at 21 Mercer in NYC.This was an exciting opportunity for me to express my creativity on a personal level with a purpose in mind that relates to my passions in life. The NikeID program has always been something I've wanted to do, but at the same time I always felt it was limited in design - until now.

Side Note - Shout out to Marcus Troy's Air Force 1 Bespoke, I believe he created his in the same week, but had no idea that he was using similar materials until he unveiled it a few days ago. Luckily the materials I used are in different places of the shoe so it will be unique and have a nice finish.

As my professional baseball days are over, I've decided to "burn the boat" with another passion of mine, dj'ing. Conquistador Hernando Cortez, who, upon arriving in Mexico, ordered his men to burn their ships so that there would be no thought of retreat against the Aztecs. This creates a mindset to fully commit to succeed without any self doubt or fear. What started in '96 learning the art of turntablism and the mixing of Lil Suzy and Debbie Deb was somewhat lost in translation after I decided to live the dream of cracker jacks and louisville sluggers. The fact of the matter is, the time is now!
